Discovery Youth Group (DYG)
Discovery Youth Group Summer Camp
Where: Lee University, Cleveland, TN (about a 7-hour drive) We will stay in the dorms.
When: June 17-22, 2013
Who: All kids who will be in Middle School by next fall.
The Great Escape was the first and is the oldest continually running middle school conference in America today. Founded in 1982 with 300 young people, The Great Escape has grown to 9 different camps and conferences around the country.
The success of The Great Escape rests in the fact that the teams planning the events understand and know kids. Because so many of them are also full-time church youth leaders, they know that your number one goal for a summer conference experience is for your students to hear the message of Jesus.
Each week is packed full of recreation and activities as well as dynamic speakers, musicians, and other artists who understand how to communicate in real ways with young people. The Great Escape is a tremendously fun and exciting atmosphere where students feel comfortable and loved, and where they will have the best week of their lives experiencing the love of Jesus!
What the campers can expect while at camp:
Upon arrival, the kids will have game time with other campers from other churches. Each DYG camper will get a room assignment. Each DYG camper will have roommates (possibly as many as four living in a room) and will be given a bunk bed to sleep in. All DYG girls will live on the same hall in a girls dorm with the female leaders sharing the same hall with them. All DYG guys will be with the male leaders all in the guys dorm and all on the same hall. We will eat dinner and then have our first “large group” worship time. After the large group time we will have “family time” then lights out and sleep to get ready for the next day.
Daily schedule
- Mornings include breakfast, a family group mixer, quiet times, a morning session and worship.
- Afternoons include lunch, recreation, free time, and tournaments!
- Evenings include dinner, evening sessions, aftermaths, counselor meetings, family time, and lights out.
Free Day is one day during the week that we will be assigned to go off campus and enjoy one of the local attractions. Normally we take the kids to a swimming area at a local lake and then out for a special ice cream treat.
The conference is sponsored by Youth Conference Ministries. You can find out more at http://ycmhome.org/the-great-escape/
The cost for camp is $415. A deposit of $100 will save your spot, but the balance can be paid over time and must be paid in full by May 15.
On April 20, we will hold our 2nd Annual DYG-A-PALOOZA to raise money that will reduce the cost for the trip.
